Lanzarote is the most easterly of the Canary Islands with a landscape carved by volcanic activity – from the mountainous north and east slopes down to the flat lands of the south east where the capital Arrecife is situated with its shops and restaurants. Elsewhere there is the Timanfaya National Park, Teguise’s Guanapay Castle is set in a volcanic cone and Los Verdes has an enormous volcanic cave stretching for more than six kilometres.
