Costa del Azahar holidays

Picture of Costa del Azahar, Spain

The Orange Blossom coast, has miles and miles of golden beaches, clean, safe and gently shelving, with rock pools and small headlands along its length between Valencia and Denia. Among them are Vinaroz and Cullera and even Valencia, the main city, has two big beaches.

Valencia is Spain's third largest city and although little of its Roman or Arab past remain, it has an historic cathedral, Baroque palaces and a 15th century Silk Exchange building. Valencia's non-beach activities include the City of Arts and Science Park, which has a planetarium, IMAX dome and laser show. For regional history there are the ruins of a castle at Chisvert to explore and the ancient fortress of Peniscola.

Waterskiing, windsurfing and sailing dominate the coastal activities while inland the close proximity of the Pyrenees Mountains adds skiing, mountain biking, hiking and white-water rafting to the activities list. Although temperatures soar to 25C plus in summer the sea breezes fan the beaches and keep peak temperatures comfortable. The temperature of Costa del Azahar is a few degrees lower on average than the costas to the south, making them great family holiday spots. Sea temperatures from May to November remain between 14C to18C and a number of beaches have natural lagoons where the water temperature is very warm.

Eating out in Spain is inexpensive, the choice is wide and children are made welcome. Squid and the many fish varieties on the menu reflect the close proximity to the sea and reflect all that has made this region of Spain famous - the Valenciana paella and Zarzuela are being the most well known. These tapas bars, restaurants and bistros are available to suit all tastes and all wallet sizes; The flying time is around two hours with a number of rival airlines, including charter carriers, operating to the airport Valencia.
